Water. There’s no question about your relationship with it. You need it. You love it. So the question remains, bottle or tap? Do you spend the bucks to buy the cold, appealing plastic bottle that may or may not land up in an endless landfill? Or do you go the old fashioned route and bring your reusable bottle to the faucet, disregarding the often not-so-fresh taste? Bottled water is a billion dollar industry and in this time of recession, when many cut back on frivolous expenses like bottled H20, this is a valid question.
It’s clear which choice is cheaper. So which one is safer? Also a valid question.
Here’s the thing. Bottled water is under significantly less regulation than municipal water. While city water suppliers must disclose what flows through the pipes to your kitchen sink (via publications, public websites, etc.), the bottlers remain tight lipped. Where does that Aquafinaâ delightfulness actually come from? What’s in it? Will it make me grow a third eye? Hard to say. Why? Because there’s no label on that bottle.
So before you refill or buy for your next workout, here’s an article that might give you a little insight on the matter.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering (because I was) about what’s in our own water, you can find out what the mighty Mississippi is providing us here.
